Company Background
The company was formed as ECS in December 1999 as the UK Distributor for Ericsson AB, Sweden, to address the UK high voltage cable market. The company was founded on the approach of providing engineered solutions to the high voltage cable industry in particular for complex projects, such as the connection to oil filled cable systems and tunnel installations.
As the company grew in strength and reputation, in 2006 ECS became the UK Agent for LS Cable & Systems, South Korea, complementing the range of cable and accessories provided by Ericsson to address the UK market up to 400kV.
The combined supply from both factories resulted in 250km of 132kV XLPE cable delivered by ECS to the UK in 2007 alone.
Since that time ECS has been proud to work alongside the electricity infrastructure industry to deliver key projects such as the 132kV connections to the 2012 London Olympic Park, the offshore windfarm at Hornsea 01 & 02, diversion of the 132kV and 66kV oil filled cables out of St Johns Wood and Lodge Road substations in London and a critical subsea cable repair to restore power to the island of Zanzibar following a failure on their only connection to the mainland of Tanzania.
Following the acquisition of Ericsson by NKT ECS was able to incorporate their range of cables and accessories in the portfolio and continue to provide the support and products that customers had become used to. ECS continues to work with NKT, LS Cables and other partners in the UK and worldwide for the installation of cables and accessories up to 400kV.
Cable and accessory supply is supported by a skilled and competent installation team comprising Project Managers, Engineers, Jointers and Technicians delivering cable installation projects including civil works, cable installation, jointing, test and commission.
The company believes in investing in our team by recruiting, training and retaining directly employed Project Managers, Engineers, Jointers and Technicians to ensure that every project can be fully resourced with in-house staff at any time and delivered to the highest quality.
Our Jointing resource is second to none with expertise on both oil filled and XLPE cable systems up to 400kV and accreditations with leading suppliers of accessories. Our team hold certifications for working in electricity substations and near electrical equipment as well as the necessary training and accreditations to work offshore in both the renewable energy and oil and gas industries.
Employee Ownership Trust
In March 2022, ECS was proud to announce that the ownership structure of the company was moved to an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT).
The EOT may be familiar to some as “the John Lewis model” whereby all employees are partners in the company and the EOT runs the company for the benefit of all employees.
We believe that this structure gives all employees the opportunity to feel part of the ECS family and that by working together, we can achieve a better outcome for everyone.
